FAQ

What denomination is Hope?

We’re a non-denominational church which means that we are not formally aligned with an established denomination and are officially autonomous.

What are your office hours?

Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm.

What should I wear to weekend worship services?

Most people dress casually at Hope, but we encourage you to come as you are in whatever it is that you feel comfortable in.

What type of music do you play?

Our worship style is contemporary. Click here for an examples of recent worship at Hope.

What do you offer for college-aged people?

Brett Durham leads our college ministry, Hope College Fellowship (otherwise known as HCF). They meet on Tuesday nights for 747 at, you guessed it, 7:47pm. Click here for a video message from Brett and details about 747 and hitching a ride on Sundays from NC State’s campus.

Do you offer a Wednesday night service?

While we do not offer a Wednesday night worship service, we have multiple classes, Home Groups, Common Interest Groups and ID groups that meet during the week. We encourage you to check them out and get plugged in!

For singles, we have a Friday night worship service called Journey that is held on the first Friday of every month. Please join us!

Does Hope practice infant baptism?

Since the Bible clearly states that baptism is an outward symbol that a person has entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ, we do not baptize infants as they are not capable of making the decision to follow Christ.

Jesus clearly commands us to profess our faith in him through baptism (Acts 22:16). If you have a relationship with Christ but have never been baptized, click here.

Is it difficult to develop relationships at Hope since it’s such a large church?

Most of our members would say that Hope is as big or as small as you make it. If you desire to develop relationships with others and get plugged in, it’s as simple as joining a Home Group, Common Interest Group, ID study or committing to serve as a weekend volunteer and gaining an immediate network of other volunteers.

What is the significance of communion and how often do you take communion as a congregation?

We take communion because God commands us to (Luke 22:19). The Bible also makes it very clear that if you’re not a believer or if you are a Christian living in rebellion you should not take communion.
Because of this, we offer communion once each month upstairs in the Chapel after services to all of those ready and willing to participate. We also encourage LifeGroups to take communion together.

Is there a reason that you do not pass offering plates during weekend services? Where can I place my offering?

We never want you to give out of obligation. God delights in cheerful giving so it’s important not to create an environment where people give under pressure. Instead, we have offering boxes in the atrium next to the auditorium doors for our guests to place their offerings.

What is your policy on children in worship?

We recognize that a church service designed for adults is challenging for children to quietly sit through. Because we love kids and want the hour that they spend in church each weekend to be the best hour of their week, we’ve designed services and experiences to uniquely meet their needs in KidCity.

While we recommend for you to take all of your children to KidCity during worship services, we do welcome children four years and younger upstairs in our Family Chapel.

Does Hope offer Sunday school classes?

With the amount of people that attend hope there’s simply not enough facility space to hold Sunday school classes each weekend. Because of this, we have a thriving small group ministry, large group Bible studies for both men and women and Monday night classes each fall and winter.
